Sustainability is a major topic of conversation in the fashion industry right now. And how could it not be? UN recently reported that a global climate crisis could be possible by 2040 if emissions aren’t reduced soon. It is not clear what is the exact contribution of fashion to this, but what we certainly know is that fashion production leads to a lot of material waste, water and air pollution, and leaves many workers across the supply chain supremely vulnerable. This urges the need for not only clothing brands but also all manufacturing facilities to take note of earth’s cry for help. It is imperative to start living in balance with Mother Earth by adopting the use of eco-friendly materials and methods.
What does “Sustainability” mean to NO THINKIN?
As a fashion brand we are trying to embed in our work a respect for the earth and an understanding of how long things can last if they’re properly cared for. We have spent the last years growing our label with a vision of trend-resistant, thoughtful clothing to keep for decades. The whole brand was actually based on a “sustainable” idea, when Mirketa started remodeling and decorating her old jeans. Τhe rest is history! Since then we’ve been working tirelessly to gradually turn NO THINKIN into a more ethical and environmentally conscious brand. All products are accompanied by recycled and biodegradable materials. Specifically our NO THINKIN packaging is 100% biodegradable and made from recycled materials as well as all the paper elements that interface our pieces.
This year we decided to challenge ourselves and take it a step further. For Spring/Summer 2021 we are launching our first eco-conscious beach and swimwear collection. Our new planet-friendly line is designed with longevity in mind, making each piece fashionable, sustainable and made-to-last. In detail our bikinis, one-piece swimsuits and beachwear are made with recycled polyester, also known as rPET.
What makes rPET sustainable?
Polyester is one of the most renowned fabric options for fashion, design and interiors due to its durable and resistant characteristics. However, it is not a sustainable textile option, as it is made from polyethylene terephthalate (PET), the most common type of plastic in the world. That’s why after thorough research we decided on recycled polyester (rPET) which is obtained by melting down existing plastic and re-spinning it into new polyester fiber. This way a second life is given to a material that’s naturally not biodegradable and would otherwise end up in landfill or the ocean. Another benefit is that rPET has a smaller carbon footprint than virgin polyester. A 2017 research study found that manufacturing rPET generates 79% less carbon emissions as it requires far fewer resources than that of new fibers. Last but not least, the properties and performance of rPET is as good as the quality of virgin polyester.
In that way we are hoping to contribute more and respect the balance between humans and the natural world. You need to remember though that you also have power by being a consumer- change happens with you and me.

So what are you THINKIN?
Are you ready to go sustainable to the beach wearing your NOTHININ bikini?
We sure are!

For you #NOTHINKER,
Eli
