Hello 2022! New Year, New Me and so on! For some reason I can’t explain I have a good and positive feeling for the New Year! It might be due to the fact that I tested positive again for Corona (plot twist) or due to all the sweets I devoured in the holidays (that’s pure diabetes type II happiness). In this ecstatic state of optimism, happiness and hyperglycemia, it’s time to set our beloved and long-awaited 2022 NEW YEAR RESOLUTIONS, yes the ones we all love to set only not to follow later. So take your new 2022-with-big –letters-on-the-cover agenda and start writing passionately:
“I must lose 10 kg until summer (only 10? Why so humble)”, “In 2022 I need to find a boyfriend/girlfriend/marry”, “I’ll definitely go to the gym”, “I’ll travel more”, “I’ll work hard!”, “No more excuses, I’m ready to become the best version of myself”.

Bro hold on, you just gave me a headache (or probably the sugar rush is fading away and the side effects start kicking in…). At this stage let me tell you that your only resolution I agree on is: “I’ll work hard!”But you didn’t specify what are you gonna work hard for. For a change I’ll suggest you something: Work hard on changing the way you’re THINKIN and seeing yourself (I’m clearly reading too many motivational quotes lately…). Your 2022 resolutions seem more like expectations and demands of yourself to me than actual realistic goals. The real question though is: Is it your personal expectations or society’s expectations of you?
Society constantly bombards us with instructions to be happier, richer, and fitter. Meanwhile social media is creating additional pressure to construct a perfect public image, exacerbating our feelings of inadequacy and making us fall deeper into the perfectionism trap. Who said that being ordinary is bad? What’s the best version of yourself that you’re talking about? The one that’ll have more likes on Instagram or the one that will truly make you happy? I personally believe that every day you wake up you’re the best version of yourself you can be depending on the things you’re going through that specific period of time. You can simply improve the way you react on certain situations and face challenges in order to leave behind the version you were “yesterday” and focus on the version you are “today” and you’ll “tomorrow”.

Neither I bought a new agenda for 2022 since I still have the one from last year (save the forests), nor I wrote down New Year Resolutions. That doesn’t mean I don’t have new personal goals or that I abandoned the ones from last year just because earth revolved around the sun. It’s just my humble opinion that the goals you set need to be realistic, direct and flexible. You can’t set a vague goal at the beginning of the year and expect to accomplish it someday in 2022, simply because it won’t be the same goal by the end of the year. Every day you grow, you change, you evolve and so do your goals! Set goals on which you can focus and start work on NOW. Let’s see how you can do this:
1. “I want to lose weight; I put on extra kg during the holidays”.
First, congratulations on eating your heart out during this Christmas break because food is a blessing! However, now you’re searching every possible article with the title “detox” or “diet express”. I’ll tell you one thing: You’ll lose that extra weight, it’s just water retention! Not by just drinking a green juice with celery and kale a day though because whatever you’ll lose, you’ll gain in double. Your goal should be to return back to a balanced diet. Add more vegetables and fruits to your meals and reduce the quantity of carbs and meat. And yes, in the meantime drink your green juice too if that makes you feel better. Eat healthier today, not tomorrow and definitely not just one month before summer comes. This will activate your metabolism and burn that extra fat, especially if you combine it with regular exercise. Now that I mention it:
2. “I’ll definitely go to the gym this year”
Why? Is it because you like it or because everyone else seems to like it? Because if you don’t really like it, then another New Year resolution will go to waste. A more realistic goal would be: I want to find a form of exercise that makes me feel good. Search, ask, try new things. And even if you figure out that sports are not for you, then don’t beat yourself up. Go out and have a walk in nature or in the city. This counts as exercise too. But move now.
3. “In 2022 I need to find a boyfriend/girlfriend/marry”
First, you don’t NEED to, even if your family was hinting it all the time during Christmas and New Years Eve. Secondly, I really get you, especially when it seems impossible to form any kind of bond or relationship these days (the word marriage is banned from this generation’s dictionary…). So you can’t expect from yourself something that does not depend entirely on you but also on luck and their zodiac sign…
What you can do though is to improve the relationship with yourself. Keep raising your self-esteem, keep choosing yourself, listen to your intuition and gut feelings without questioning why and stop seeking validation from people that don’t deserve to be around you. On the other hand, text now your loved ones and spend more time with people who enjoy your authentic self. These are the resolutions that will help you attract what is really meant for you!

Hey 2022! It’s finally time to HEAL!

Happy New Year #NOTHINKER,
Eli
